Tallinn Pushes Hard to End ‘Estonian Compromise’ on Orthodox Church

By Paul Goble

“Since the collapse of the USSR, many in the post-Soviet states and even more in the West have seen what has been called “the Estonian compromise” as the basis for inter-religious concord and national integration in these countries. But that “compromise” is now coming to an end in the place where it was created.”

(ERR)

“In the second half of the noughties of the current century, the trend of the formation of the new wave of Belarusians was just being defined, in the tenths it became obvious, and, finally, the most active period falls on the revolutionary for Belarus events of 2020-2021.”

“One of the characteristic features of this part of the Belarusian community in Estonia is a high percentage of representatives of the creative class and, above all, IT specialists, which was the result of Estonia's migration policy towards Belarusians in the last 12 years."

Ukraina pealetung Kurskis on edukas, sest Vene juhid ei olnud selleks valmis

(ERR)

“Ukraina pealetung Kurski oblastis on edukas eelkõige selle tõttu, et Venemaa väejuhatus ja ka poliitiline juhtkond ei olnud absoluutselt valmis selliseks sündmuseks. Ja tundub, et nad ei saa siiamaani selle sündmuse mastaapidest ja Ukraina poole kavatsusest aru. See muudab selle efekti erakordselt suureks.”

Russian Offensive Campaign Assessment August 8, 2024

(ISW)

“Geolocated footage and Russian claims indicate that Ukrainian forces continued rapid advances further into Kursk Oblast on August 8, and Ukrainian forces are reportedly present in areas as far as 35 kilometers from the international border with Sumy Oblast. Ukrainian forces most certainly do not control all of the territory within the maximalist extent of Russian claims about Ukrainian advances in Kursk Oblast.”

Russians used to love the Olympics. This year, not so much.

(Christian Science Monitor)

“Barely 4% of respondents in an ongoing Sport-Express poll said they were watching the Olympics online, and only a further 10% said they were following it in the media. A whopping 60% indicated that they were not interested in the Games at all. In the comments section on the site, many remarked on the lack of Russian participation as a key reason for ignoring these Games.”

Kremlin ups attacks on critics abroad

(BBC)

“With all dissent snuffed out at home, Russia is turning its attention to opponents who have sought refuge in the West. Dmitry Medvedev, a former Russian president who is now deputy head of Russia's Security Council, described them as “traitors who have gone over to the enemy and want their Fatherland to perish.”
