Poliitmaastik on polariseerunud EKRE ja Reformierakonna vahel
(Delfi)
âEesti poliitiline maastik on uues ajajĂ€rgus.

Mart Helme wants to establish Riigikogu support group for Estonia leaving the EU
(ERR)
âHelme described the initiative as a cry for help in a federalizing Europe that has succumbed to neo-Marxist ideology. ⊠âWe understand full well that we will be accused of working for the Kremlin and told that Estonia must choose between Europe and Russia, how the country can never find itself alone again etc. ⊠â

(Digitark)
Kunst ja Kodu: the Soviet-era design magazine that paved the way for independent Estonian ingenuity
(Calvert Journal)
âPublished on an ad-hoc basis from its offices in Tallinn by a team of designers, Kunst ja Kodu was the only magazine in the Soviet Union to take on the heady world of interior design in a nation suffering from rampant shortages, intellectual repression, and the austere legacy of Stalinism. Yet while it may have been green lighted by Moscow officials hoping to harness Estonia's alluring-yet-safe Baltic "otherness", the magazine was also able to carve out a future for Estonian design that was very much the country's own.â

Minu jaoks on see tĂ€iesti arusaamatu loogika. Mina liigun metsas nagu muuseumis. Sest mets pole ju ainult puud. Mingis mĂ”ttes vĂ”ib hoopis vĂ€ita, et puud on vaid raamid â ja tegelik mets asub nende vahel, nende sees. Metsa raiumine sarnaneb seega kunstirööviga, kus vargad panevad pihta kullast pildiraamid, sest need tunduvad neile vÀÀrtuslikud, aga jĂ€tavad tĂ€helepanuta hinnalise maali raami sees, lasevad sellel pĂ”randale tolmu sisse kukkuda ja tallavad veel jaluli otsaski, kuni maalist on jĂ€rel ainult rĂ€balad. âŠâ

Estonia appoints nuclear working group
(Nuclear Engineering International)
âThe working group will analyse the possibility of introducing nuclear energy in Estonia and submit its conclusions and proposals to the government no later than September 2022. According to Environment Minister TĂ”nis Mölder, the working group must assess Estoniaâs energy needs and ensure energy security in the next 20 years. It will decide whether there would be a need for nuclear energy and how it would fit into the existing electricity network.â
â
âThe working group includes the Ministry of the Environment, the Environmental Board, the Ministry of the Interior, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Education and Research, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications, the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Social Affairs and the State Chancellery.â

Russian troops hoarding on Ukraineâs border
(Warsaw Institute)
âKyiv is in a somewhat perilous position. It sees threats alongside its whole eastern border with Russia, as well as in the north (from Belarus), and in the south as the Russian forces sit in Crimea whereas a far stronger Russian flotilla is operating in the Black Sea. Furthermore, the Russian military is massing on Ukraineâs western border, thus along the breakaway region of Transnistria where Russia has been very active in the past few weeks, posing an immediate peril to Ukraine. It is easy to move from the training phase to the real combat operation.â

Opinion: Three options for West on Putin's Ukraine build-up
(EU Observer)
âAs Russian troops gather near Ukraine's eastern border, the international community has pondered an important question. Will Russia launch a new offensive into Ukraine According to some policy analysts and experts, Russia is trying to provoke a response from the new US administration while attempting to unsettle Ukraine. Russia has already endured heavy losses from the ongoing Donbas conflict, where 14,000 Ukrainian and Russian soldiers and civilians have perished. The illegal annexation of Crimea has also not gone according to plan.â
â
âOver the past 7 years, Russia has spent billions on trying to integrate the peninsula. Simply put, the costs of launching a new offensive into the Donbas would be too expensive for Russian president Vladimir Putin and his men. The loss of life would also be grave. âŠâ

The long history of Russian state suppression of the press
(Riddle)
âHistorically, the Russian state and press have had a close relationship. From its earliest days, the Russian press has been a state project. Russiaâs first newspaper, the Sankt-Peterburgskie Vedomosti, was established by a decree of Peter the Great in 1702 to publicize his modernization projects. Since then, successive Russian governments have maintained a series of official state newspapers: Sankt-Peterburgskie Vedomosti and later Pravitelstvennyi Vestnik in imperial Russia, Pravda in the Soviet Union, and Rossiiskaia Gazeta in post-Soviet Russia.â

The Perilous Bargains That Keep Putin in Power
(Foreign Affairs)
âFor 21 years, Vladimir Putin has reigned supreme over Russian politics. A skillful manipulator of public opinion, he wields the blunt force of repression against opponents at home and the sharp power of cyber-operations and espionage campaigns against enemies abroad. Increasingly, Western analysts and officials portray him as all-powerful, a ruthless former KGB man âŠâ
â
âBut if Putin is unrivaled at home, he is not omnipotent. Like all autocrats, he faces the dual threats of a coup from elites around him and a popular revolt from below. And because of the compromises he has had to make to consolidate his personal control over the state, Putinâs tools for balancing the competing goals of rewarding elites who might otherwise conspire against him and appeasing the public are becoming less and less effective.â
