Šokeerivad uudised Narva kohta mõjutavad noorte turvatunnet

Martin Tikk - Postimees Arvamus

“Arusaam Narvast kui ohtlikust linnast on visa kaduma. Kuigi ametlik kuritegevuse statistika näitab paranemise märke, on oluline elanikkonna ja külaliste tunnetus turvalisuse kohta, kirjutab kolumnist Martin Tikk. Narva on linn, kus võib eri paigus ja ajahetkel tajuda mitmetahulist reaalsust. Hiljuti uuriti 65 Narva noorelt, kui turvaliselt nad ennast Narvas tunnevad.”

“Statistika näitab, et Narvas elavate noorte turvatunne on pigem keskmisest kõrgem – üldine hinnang linna turvalisusele jäi 3,84-le viiepalliskaalal. Kodupiirkondades tuntakse end veel kindlamalt (3,89). Samas ilmnes oluline erinevus soolises jaotuses: poisid tunnevad end Narvas turvalisemalt kui tüdrukud (vastavalt 3,96 vs. 3,78).”

Estonia marked Flag Day

By Silver Tambur, Estonian World

“The Estonian flag has its origins in the national movement – on 4. June 1884, the Estonian Students’ Association adopted blue, black and white as the colours of its student fraternity. The flag officially became the Estonian national flag in 1918. Since then, the tricolour has become one of the most important symbols of the independence, consciousness and solidarity of the Estonian people.”

Orthodoxy in Estonia: Between Autonomy and National Security

By Aleksandra Kuczyńska-Zonik

And Andrzej Szabaciuk

(Institute of Central Europe - 20. May)

“The restoration of Estonian independence led to the division of the local Orthodox Church into two: one subordinate to the Patriarchate of Constantinople, and the other dependent on the Moscow Patriarchate. Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Estonia took a harder line on the Estonian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate. This resulted in administrative decisions such as the expulsion of Metropolitan Eugenius and attempts to sever ties with the Moscow Patriarchate. In response to new legal regulations aimed at limiting the influence of the Russian Church, changes have been made to the church’s organisational structure. However, disputes over the Church’s future status and its relations with other Orthodox jurisdictions remain ongoing. The situation remains dynamic and affects the security of the state. …”

Estonian parliament voted to withdraw from landmines treaty

(Reuters | Baltic Times)

“81 members of the 101 parliament supported the motion, its press office said.”

“The Estonian vote follows those in Latvia, where parliaments have already approved the withdrawal. The countries would be able to stockpile and lay landmines six months after informing other treaty members and the United Nations of their decision. … The Ottawa Convention entered into force in 1999 and Estonia acceded to it in 2004.”

“Finnish authorities detained the vessel on December 26 after it was suspected of dragging its anchor along the seabed for over 100 kilometers, severing the Estlink 2 power link and four undersea telecommunications cables on Christmas day. The ship was released in early March following the initial phase of the investigation. The three senior crew members are now suspected of serious crimes in connection with the incident, including the ship's captain, first officer, and second officer. All three have been barred from leaving Finland since the investigation began.”

Baltic states are 'model allies,' says U.S. defense secretary Pete Hegseth

(ERR)

“Rumors about the U.S. potentially withdrawing forces from Europe and a weakening of its commitment to NATO have frequently been reported by the media since President Donald Trump took office in January.”

“Politicians from Poland, Lithuania, and Estonia, which host deployments of U.S. troops, have denied that any changes are currently taking place. All three countries plan to spend 5 percent of their GDP on defense in the coming years. Ukraine

A Year, Six Months, and Nine Days

From the beginning of planning to effective execution

(Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of Estonia)

“Ukraine carried out its most long-range operation to date: 117 Ukrainian drones, involvement of our people across various Russian regions – in three time zones – and the result: 34% of Russia’s strategic cruise missile carriers were struck at their airbases. In total, the Ukrainian operation took out over 40 units of Russia’s strategic aviation.”

“Ukraine is defending itself, and rightly so – we are doing everything to make Russia feel the need to end this war. Russia started this war, Russia must end it”, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated.

Kremlin - Snared by the Spider’s Web

By Roman Sheremeta

“Few military operations manage to combine tactical brilliance, psychological disruption, and economic damage as effectively as Ukraine’s Operation Spider’s Web attack on June 1. This audacious strike deep into Russian territory didn’t just damage airbases and destroy aircraft. It rewrote the rules of asymmetric warfare in the 21st century.”

Ukraina droonirünnak torpedeeris Venemaa globaalse militaarstrateegia

Wall Street Journal | Postimees

Ukraine launched a major drone attack on Russian bombers on airbases in Siberia

(The Guardian - 1. June)

“… striking more than 40 warplanes thousands of miles from its own territory, a security official has said, after it smuggled the drones to the perimeter of the airfields hidden in the roofs of wooden sheds.”

“Video from several military airfields across Russia showed destroyed aircraft and planes engulfed in flames, though the full extent of the damage remained unclear. Among the more than 40 aircraft reportedly hit were Tu-95 and Tu-22 strategic bombers, which Russia uses to fire long-range missiles at Ukrainian cities.”
